Please see the attached statements in connection with

arrest of the Steam Launch KWAI HING and two cargo junks Nos.

2233V and 2312V on the 23.1.40.

PUN KAM LUN 33 years, master of cargo boat No.265V

reported that he left SHA CHENG village, PO ON District on the

18.1.40 bound for Hong Kong. He had on board a cargo of

vegetables and rice to the total value of $57.50.

About 23.00 hours on the 21.1.40 he was sailing about

half a mile west of YUNG LONG WAN when a Japanese motor boat

(no. unknown) approached and fired 6 or 7 shots causing

complainant to lower sail and stop.

boarded complainant's boat and after carrying out a search,

removed the cargo of rice to the motor boat.

Complainant's

boat was then taken in tow to near LIN TIN Island. Two more

sampans were there fired upon by the Japanese, and the sampans

were then taken in tow to CHEK WAN, where they all dropped

anchor about 04.00 hours on the 22.1.40.

About 08.-- hours the same morning a launch was seen

with two large cargo junks in tow. The Japanese on the motor

boat called upon the launch (Steam Launch KWAI HING) to stop,

at first those on board the launch paid no attention. Two

Japanese sailors then fired on the aLunch and it stopped alongside

the motor boat. A Chinese male (CHAN CHOI) who was on board one

of the cargo boats then boarded the motor boat and spoke in

Japanese to the Japanese. This man (CHAN CHOI) then told the

owners of the boats alongside the motor boat to lead their

cargoes on board the two cargo boats, this was done. All four
