I saw the Steam Launch KWONG HING about .3, miles

ahead of me with a junk in tow astern, off FAN TSANG CHAU

(Conic Island). I saw a Japanese trawler abeam of the

KWONG HING about 30 feet from the launch, they all appeared

to be stopped. They were only about 300 feet to the East

of Conic Island.

I knew that the KWONG HING was en route from Sha

U Chung to Hong Kong, she is regularly on this run and I

had passed her at about 12.30 hours on 21.1.40 near PING

CHAU (Mirs Bay).

The trawler was painted grey and had one funnel

aft and one mast forward, it was about 100 feet in length.

It carried a Japanese mercantile flag at the stern on a

short spar.

The flag was a plain red spot on white with no

lines from the centre to the edge of the flag.

I could see no characters or number on the trawler.

When about 2 miles from the trawler I saw the

trawler tow the KWONG HING and jun

anog junk

in line astern, towards

the East in direction of SAM MUN KWAN at speed of approximately

6 knots.

When last seen by me the trawler was about 4 miles
