I submit a report of a Japanese attack upon the

Steam Launch KWONG HING with junk T1703H in tow which took

place in British Territorial Waters between TAI LONG WAN
and CONIC ISLAND, on the afternoon of 21.1.40.

The Steam Launch KWONG HING left PENG CHAU in
Mirs Bay at about 12.00 hours on 21.1.40 with junk T1703H
in tow, the junk was carrying chickens, ducks, pigs and
earthenware from Chinese Territory for Hong Kong, the
junk is Hong Kong registry.
The KWONG HING is a steam launch registered in
刘文 Hong Kong of 18.75 tons nett and is owned by Mr. LAU MAN,
224 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon.
The junk carried no flag but the KWONG HING was
flying the British Red Ensign at the stern and on her bridge
she had the Union Jack painted on port and starboard sides.
At about 15.30 hours the launch and junk were
stopped when in British Waters in vicinity of TAI LONG WAN, by a Japanese trawler flying the Japanese Mercantile Flag.
The trawler came alongside and four Japanese
boarded, they were dressed in various types of uniform and
armed with one revolver and two rifles with bayonets fixed.
Some blows were struck by the Japanese (not
serious) and one seaman of KWONG HING received a slight
bayonet wound in the right buttock, (a medical report attached).
The trawler then towed the KWONG HING and T1 703H 三門
to SAM MUN.
On the way the Red Ensign was taken down by the
Japanese and the two Union Jacks on the bridge were covered
with nailed down canvas.

On arrival at SAM MUN they were put alongside a
war-ship bearing No. 5 on the bows.
