We asked Mr. Binnie if the visit could be satisfactorily

made provided the additional information he requires was available

when he reached Hong Kong, but he thought it would be necessary for

him to examine the data in England before leaving, and we think

this is the proper course to take. The Consulting Engineers

proposed charge for the preliminary visit, report and advice on

the general scheme is £3,000. plus travelling, hotel, and out-of-

pocket expenses, and it would be unfortunate if the visit was

made at too early a date and a second visit became necessary.

believe that when the scheme for the Gorge Dam was first considered

it was necessary for the Consulting Engineers to make two

preliminary visits owing to the data available when the first visit

was made being inadequate.

We

The Consulting Engineers indicate in their letter the

additional information required, and it would be an advantage if

we could be advised in advance when this information will be

advailable, in order that we can reserve a passage on Imperial

Airways for Mr. Binnie.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your obedient Servant,
