I have the honour to report that yesterday

I passed sentence of death on a young man aged 24, named

Tang Chu for the marder of a young man of 21 years of

age named Loung Xi în Chinese Street on the evening of

28th September.

The condemned man had for about a year

owed the mum of fifty cents to a boy named Chan Kam în,

whe for some time before the murder kad vainly been

endeavouring to secure repayment, Ultimately Leung Ki,

who in turn wished to borrow from Chan Kam On, tried to

get the condemned man to repay his debt.

On the evening of 28th September Leung

Ki was about to begin a game of chess with a friend on

the side of Chinese street and the condemned man n86

sitting on a stool on the aide of the street when Chan

Kam On came the seena. Ho and Leung Ki at once

approached the condemned man and again durmed him for

fifty conts. When he said that he had no money he was

told by Leung K1 that if he did not pay within three

days he would not be allowed to hawk in Chinese Street.

Leang Ki accompanied these words with a tap or push on

the shoulder with his open hand. The evidence, which the

Jury accepted, and very properly accepted, was that the

condesmed man at ones turned to the coffee stall outside

which he had been sitting. Thereupon Chan Kam On ran at

onde north into Des Voeux Road while Leung X1 bolted

up Chinese street pursued by the condemned man. After a

short chase Leung Ki fell or was cut dom, and in all he
