My Lord,

I have the honour to report that, in the

case of Hau Kang Po who was sentenced to death for

murder, Sir Geoffry Northcote commuted the sentence

to imprisonment for life.

2.

The matter was considered by the Executive

Council which advised that the clemency of the Crown

should be exercised in this case. The advice was

accepted by Sir Geoffry Northcote.

3.

A copy of the Chief Justice's letter,

together with his notes of evidence during the

trial, is enclosed.
