The truth would seem to be that the original description of his post was not an apt one. He is now, however, being appointed and gazetted as a Crown Counsel, and I think it would be much better to regard that as a new appointment and to tell the Governor that he could re-adjust his salary in regard to that appointment as he thinks proper.
The increments referred to are
relevant to recruitment and not to change of status years afterwards, and I should like to avoid linking up any alteration of his salary with the professional increments.
