Dear Gent,

53521/408

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

HONG KONG,

29th May, 1940.

Ref. 4

53521/40

With reference to your letter No.53521/40 of 6th

May, 1940, on the subject of the writing-off of the amount

reimbursed by this Government to Messrs. Mollers' Ltd. in

respect of the propellor and shaft which were accidentally

omitted from the sale of the tug "Kau Sing", I confirm that

the procedure prescribed by Colonial Regulation No.347 and

the Hong Kong Stores Regulations was observed when these

articles were disposed of after being condemned as unserviceable

by a Board of Survey. I regret that this was not made clear

in the despatch.

2.

Mr. Malcolm MacDonald's despatch No.165 of 7th

May, 1940, authorizing the write-off has now been received

and I would point out that it contains a typist's error in

paragraph 2. The amount to be written-off is $859.50 (not

$895.50).

Yours sincerely,

N.L; Sant

G.E.J. Gent, Esq., D.S.O., O.B.E., M.C.,

Colonial Office,

London, S.W.1.
