No. 435.
My Lord,
GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONG KONG,
RECLIVED 9th October, 1940.
16 DEC 1940
C. O. REQY
END
I have the honour to recommend the inclusion
in the Medical Department's Estimates for 1941-42 of a
post of Surgical Specialist at a salary of £1,200 per
annum with free quarters.
2. I understand that such a post is a usual one
in the larger colonial dependencies and I consider that
such provision would act as a valuable incentive to
younger medical officers who at present can only look to
a transfer to another colony if they acquire specialist
qualifications of this nature.
3. The post now proposed would of course be open
to all officers of the Colonial Medical Service but in
Lordship
the first instance I would recommend the appointment of
Dr. I. Newton whose qualifications are well known to Your
He happens to be the senior of the medical officers and
would in the ordinary course have been recommended for
the post of Senior Medical Officer now made vacant by the
retirement of Dr. J.T. Smalley. If the present proposal
Lordship has your approval I will address Your/further on the subject
of the latter vacancy.
I have the honour to be,
My Lord,
Your Lordship's most obedient, humble servant,
LORD LLOYD OF DOLOBRAN,
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
lin
& Monon
Officer Administering the Government.
