Possibility of grant for benefit of Hong Kong University hes
been discussed with Secretary of Rhodes Trustees. In response
to appeal from Secretary of State Rhodes Trustees have already
approved grant of £1,000 to be spent over next four or five

years to bring student from Hong Kong to Oxford.
This might perhaps mean establishment of say two
Rhodes postgraduate two year studentships to be held at Oxford
for graduate of Hong Kong University.
In informal discussion at Colonial Office with;
Secretary of Rhodes "rustees Northcote tentatively suggested
other and more expensive schemes
(1) Endowment (for limited period) in Hong Kong University
of Rhodes Chair of say Colonial history if well-qualified
candidate were available.

value of £100 per annum to be held at Hong Kong University by,
selected students from China for four years tenure. These
might be either for graduate or post-graduate course of study.
