Mr. Wild, Treasury, rang up about this

today to remind us that the Treasury are interested

and would like to be informed of the result of our

consultation with the Crown Agents. I asked if

the Treasury wished to be consulted before we

replied to Hong Kong. He did not say that it was

necessary that we should actually consult them;

but we agreed that in the present case,as there was

no hurry in existing circumstances, we might as

well let the Treasury know what we propose to say.

It seems clear that Hong Kong will do best to

wait a little to see how the market here goes.

I submit drafts for consideration.
