Huxham has sent to me a copy of your letter

The present

of 28th June, on the subject of your possibly undertaking

an inquiry into Income Tax in this Colony.

position is that we have put it up to the Colonial

Office for approval in principle, and if that approval is

given, to open negotiations with the Inland Revenue

Department at home. As I do not quite know how far

they have proceeded I cannot, at this stage, do any

more than send home semi-officially copies of this

correspondence for their information.
