No. CONFIDENTIAL.

"Appels.

Sir,

20 MAY 1939

GOVERNMENT HOUSE,

2.3

HONG KONG,

13th May, 1939.

I have the honour to refer to my despatch No.332 of

11th May, 1939, regarding two proposed new posts of rown

Counsel in Hong Kong and to inform you that if my proposals

therein are approved, I should be glad if the candidature of

Mr. H. G. Sheldon, K.C., whose application for a post in the

Colonial Legal Service was dealt with in correspondence terminating with Mr. Ormsby-Gore's despatch confidential (2) of

28th August, 1937, may be favourably considered.

2. Mr. Sheldon, who is at present practising as a

barrister in the Colony, is desirous of being considered for

appointment to one of the proposed new posts. The Chief

Justice and the Attorney General both support his application

strongly and I myself an of opinion that the Colony would be fortunate to secure his services for magistrate's or Crown

Counsel's duties, for which he is well qualified by local

experience.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

MALCOLM MACDONALD, M.P.,

&c., &c., &c.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient, humble servant,

J. Authorthcoti

Governor.
