Scale I-COMPOSITION
The prices for composition per sheet covered both sides include reading, the supply of any one set of proofs not exceeding twelve copies, authors' corrections and all operations necessitated by such corrections, making-up, imposition, and all operations antecedent to going to press not otherwise provided for. For chargeable proofs see paragraph 23 of Scale I and paragraph 10 of Scale II.
The pages shall be in any type required, and of the dimensions specified in paragraph 22 (b) (i), other than in exceptional cases where pages of larger or smaller dimensions are ordered. In such exceptional cases the composition charge as shown below shall be increased or decreased (as the case may be) as follows:-

Until a work is finally passed for press it is in the proof stage; composition shall be charged as made up into final form, and not on the proofs.

N.B. In the event of any work other than that included in this Contract being put in type by the Contractor without written direction from the Controller, no payment will be made by the Controller for such work.
CLASSIFICATION OF COMPOSITION
Definition of a Unit.—(a) One descriptive column, to include one immediately preceding or following column of figures, roman
numerals, or serial letters.
(6) Each three figure columns or less, except as provided in (a).
Class L-One unit-to be charged at the prices in Table A,
Class II.-Two units-25 per cent. extra to the prices in Table A. Class III.-Three units-50 per cent, extra to the prices in Table A.
Class IV.-Four, or more, units-75 per cent. extra to the prices in Table A.
Matter doubled up shall be charged in the same Class as if it were not doubled up, except in the case of Class I matter set
to a measure less than 12 ems pica which shall be charged as Class II.
Blank columns and columns consisting of leaders or metal rules in tables shall be reckoned as figure columns. Examples of the foregoing are shown in the Memorandum issued with this Contract, and all charges shall be made in accordance therewith.
DISPLAYED ADVERTISEMENTS of any dimensions (if ordered)-125 per cent, extra to the prices in Table A for the standard size of type [see paragraph 22 (b) (ii)] of the work in which the advertisements appear.
HEAVY CORRECTIONS IN PROOF.-The prices in Table A include 20 per cent. on the original composition value (equivalent to one-sixth of the composition prices under Scale I) to cover authors' corrections. Where, in the opinion of the Controller, the amount of authors' corrections exceeds 333 per cent. of Scale I prices for composition, the Contractor shall be allowed such further payment as the Controller may consider reasonable.
