Messrs. T.E. Jackson and G. Swan,

Assistant Government Marine Surveyors

to the two new posts of Senior

Surveyors of Ships, Harbour Office, on the salary scale

Qapproved in your despatch confidential (4) dated 27th

April, 1939.

Messrs. Jackson and Swan are next in seniority

to Mr. R. Hall, Assistant Government Marine Surveyor, but

Mr. Hall, who is at present absent on leave, has spent

the whole of his time in charge of the Government

Slipway at Yaumati, and, when given the opportunity of

acting as Government Marine Surveyor, when Mr. W.O.

Lambert was on leave, declined to accept the acting

appointment and requested that he might be allowed to

remain at the Slipway.

Messrs. Jackson and Swan are now at the head

of the engineering and ship surveying branches of the

Government Marine Surveyor's Office respectively and are

qualified in every way for the promotion recommended

above.
