I have the honour to refer to previous

correspondence terminating with your confidential

telegram No.166 of 28th August, 1939, regarding

appointments to the vacant posts of Deputy Harbour

Master and Assistant Harbour Master, Hong Kong, and

to inform you that now that the post of Deputy

Harbour Master has been filled by the appointment of

Commander J. Jolly, I should be glad if your approval

might be given as early as possible to the appointment

of Comander Stiff as Assistant Harbour Master, Hong

Kong, and if a suitable candidate might be appointed

as soon as possible to fill the ensuing vacancy for

a nautical surveyor (vide paragraph 3 of my

confidential (2) despatch of 20th May, 1939).
