THE EASTERN DEPARTMENT

COLONIAL OFFICE.

Hong Kong.

With reference to Colonial Office minute

No.53890/39 of the 19th June regarding the rate of

payment of certain pensions under the Hong Kong

Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Scheme, we enclose

copies of a letter and enclosures which we have received

from the Hong Kong Government giving a list of

pensioners whose dollar pensions or portion of dollar

pensions registered in their names under the Widows'

and Orphans' Pension Scheme will continue to be

eligible for payment at the rate of 3s.Od. to the

dollar and also giving the reasons why the names of

Messrs. Blake, Crook, Gale & Kynoch were not

included in either of the lists enclosed with the

Colonial Government's letter to us dated 31st March

1939, No. 1445/1902, referred to in our minute of

26th May 1939.

The list now sent contains the names in the

original list, with the addition of that of Sir Cecil

Clementi. Since Sir Cecil was not told that the

privilege rate would be withdrawn, there is no need

now, presumably, to advise him that it will continue

to apply in his case.
