commitment made by your predecessor on behalf of this

Colony which forms the subject of your secret despatch

of 27th May, 1938, viz. the provision of respirators for

the families of the personnel belonging to the regular

fighting services. I submit that this will be met most

conveniently if these respirators can be obtained by the

local Naval, Military and Air Force Authorities through

Service channels, the cost being met by the Colony. I

have discussed this suggestion with the Commander-in-Chief,

China Station and the Officer Commanding the British Troops

in China and I am in a position to state that they concur.

The Local Defence Committee agree with the

course of action outlined in this despatch which this

Government proposes to adopt in respect of air raid

precautions and it also has the full concurrence of the

Executive Council.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient, humble servant,

1. hat hathurt

The

Governor.
