The Sikh policeman at the gate near my post also called

on them to stop when they were escaping but they paid no

attention.

B 311 Constable Gurdial Singh of the Hong Kong Police

states:-

At the Prisoners of War Camp on 2nd January at about 3.45 p.m. I was on duty at the gate. I saw a Chinese prisoner escaping through the wire and stones being thrown at No.1

sentry. I did not see the throwers.

I called to him in Chinese to go back, he did not do so.

I heard the sentry at No.1 post call out to the escaping

man and saw him signal to him. The sentry fired at him when

he continued to escape. He was then inside the wire and had

got under two strands.

I had no doubt that he was trying to escape.

I have heard the Chinese in camp say that the soldiers

don't fire bullets but only blank.

I did not accompany Subadar Puran Chand into the camp

but stayed on duty at the gate.

11654 Rifleman Govind Singh 1st Kumaon Rifles states:-

At the Prisoners camp at 3.45 p.m. on 2nd January I was

the sentry in No.2 post from where I can see straight along

the wire to No.1 post where Rifleman Dhan Singh was on duty.

Three Chinese approached the wire near Rifleman Dhan

Singh's post. He called to them and signed to them to go back.

The Sikh policeman at the gate also called out. One

Chinese attempted to escape through the wire. The other two

stoned Dhan Singh. He had got to the third strand when I

heard Rifleman Dhan Singh fire at him. He wriggled in the wire

and the other two pulled him out by the feet.
