I am Major, 1st Kumen Rifles.
I produce at copy
of the orders given to sentries of the internee's camp. They had been in force since 13/12/38 & were in force
on 2/1/39.
Ex.A read in Court. I have seen copies of these orders
in each sentry box in Urdu. A man would not be permitted
to leave his box to shoot. I am of the opinion that a
sentry ought to shoot, before the person attempting to
escape had gone through the wire completely.

B 311. I was on duty on 2/1/39 at Ma Tau Chung
internment camp from 12 noon 4 p.m. at the main gate
to prevent unauthorised persons entering the camp. At
about 3.45 p.m. I saw a Chinese come to the wire and
crawl through the wires. There were 2 or 3 other
Chinese with him but I could not see them clearly. I
shouted to the man 2 or 3 times in Chinese to tell the
man to get away from the wire. He paid no attention to
me, but continued to crawl into the wire.
in No. 1 post called to him 2 or 3 times.
