In conversation yesterday my Japanese colleague was even

? Peat more discouraging regarding prospects of re-opening Peace River

to navigation. He said the matter rested with Tokyo but that it would be impossible to persuade local military authorities

to agree.

2. In this connexion and in others he referred bitterly to British financial assistance given to the Chinese Government.
