British flag, we desire to inform the British authorities
of our belief that they will not object to our attacking
under similar circumstances in the future.
But in view of the fact that, on 11th October, at
Chungchansi Island we seized a Chinese launch in which a
British flag was concealed, and believing that the British
authorities agree with us that such misuse of the British
flag by the Chinese might very easily give rise to an
unfortunate incident, we beg to request that suitable and
effective measures be taken against such practice on the
part of the Chinese.
