To Diplomatic Mis- sion despatch No.3 of 7/1/1939.
With reference to the Commander-in-Chier's
telegram No. 449 to me of the 2nd January and to previous
correspondence regarding the alleged abuse of the British
flag by a Chinese torpedo boat, I transmit to you here-
with a copy of a despatch which I have addressed to my
representative at Chungking instructing him to bring
the occurrence to the notice of the Chinese Government
and to request that steps be taken to prevent a recur-
rence of such abuse.
2. I shall be glad if you will inform your
Japanese colleague of the action which is being taken
in this matter.
