Liekinhong Steamship
Company are cuers of SAGRES, vessel being purchased from
E. Grimble of Hong Kong. Company is private limited
company controlled and owned by Mr. Williamson who also
controls (tenders allocated to the) company. The general
managers are Williamson and company which is also entirely
owned by this gentleman. No charter party as this not
customary where interests of owner and charterer are so
closely associated. Letter referred to is from directorate
of salt administration at Foochow stating that men would
be sent to supervise discharge of cargo and asking that in case
of incident and their cut off from shore they be provided
with food and quarters on board until landed. This is
usual procedure for any charterer and men concerned are
not military. Letter makes no reference to officers being
on board or to their being hidden from Japanese.
