(3) According to reports, the cause of the

assassination of SHUM SUNG, nephew of WANG, is as follows:-
SHUM was acting on behalf of WANG'c clique in
Hong Kong in the matter of "Special Affairs" and the buying

over of various papers on SHUM's request. TING MAK CHUEN
sent to Hong Kong ten odd "Special Affairs" men from
Shanghai to protect SHUM and also to be at the disposal
of SHUM. However there were many Central Government
"Special Affairs" men also in Hong Kong having come from
Shanghai from where they had to move by pressure from TING
MAK CHUEN's "Special Affairs" men. Both cliques knew one
another and when met it was like fire and water.
Thinking that if they did not strike first the
Central Government's "Special Affairs" could not possibly
find a footing in Hong Kong, therefore "to capture the
robbers you must first capture their chief" - SHUM was
assassinated in order to deal a blow to WANG's clique.
