Kerr categorically denies any truth in the
report of intervention. It is possible that Britain may at this moment try to befriend Japan, but will never bring pressure to bear upon China to stop fighting, which is a fixed policy aimed at splitting the Axis Powers. As I think that the centre of gravity is now
being shifted from the Far East to America and Russia during the European War, I visited the American and Russian Embassies yesterday. The Americans said they would not befriend Japan, while the Russians said that they would concentrate on dealing with Japan durin-g the European War. Therefore we need not worry. Moreover, this can check Britain's intention of compromising
