IMPORTANT.

Following from His Majesty's Ambassador.

I understand that the Colonial Office have asked the

Governor of Hongkong to send to London a number of the Chinese Government's official cyphers, which were seized when David Kung's wireless station was raided in September.

The Chinese Government are very concerned and attach

great importance to the return of these cyphers and will

take it much amiss if they are retained. I hope therefore,

that in the interests of our general relations with the

Chinese, the Colonial Office may be moved to acquiesce in

the early return of the cyphers, which could I gather be

photographed here if they be of any real interest.

Addressed to the Foreign Office telegram No. 134 of November 12th. Repeated to His Majesty's Embassy, Shanghai

No. 263 and D.plomatic Mission No.49.

Copy to Governor.
