GENERAL POST OFFICE,
HONG KONG,
3rd March, 1939.
The Hon.
Sir,
Colonial Secretary.
I have the honour to acknowledge your letters
of the 16th February and 2nd March.
As I stated at the interview which you kindly
granted to me this morning, I am unable to offer any
valid excuse for my omission to carry out your orders.
The files are mislaid, and I must confess that I was
afraid to report the matter.
Every effort is being made to trace them, and
I beg to assure you that I will earnestly endeavour to
remedy my faults, which I well know, are most serious.
I beg that I may be given a week in which to
endeavour to repair the deficiencies.
I have the honour, to be Sir,
Your obedient servant.
(Sa) E. I. Wynne-Jones
