consideration of the relative status of the post of
Director of Education in Hong Kong and in other
Colonies it appears to me that a salary of £1,500 per
annum with free quarters would be suitable and I have
the honour to request your approval of such a salary, on the assumption that you will approve the proposals
for retaining a Class I for the Administrative Service.
This compares with the incremental salary of £1,450
£1,600 proposed for Class I of the Administrative
Service and to fixed salaries of £1,600 already approved
under the new scales for the Director of Medical
Services and the Director of Public Works.
