106. In this Part
A.-Interpretation.

(a) "dependants" means the dependants in this Colony of a male officer, namely his wife, sons under 18 years of age and unmarried daughters, or any of them, who reside with him, or whom he is liable to maintain;
(b) "entitled" means entitled under the terms of an officer's employment or a General Order;

(c) 'officer' means an officer personally resident in this Colony, and does not include a married woman or a dependant;
(d) "quarters" means a tenement owned or rented by the Government;
(e) "rent" means monthly rent or, in relation to a tenement owned and occupied by an officer or to lodgings under a contract for board and lodging, a sum fixed by the Assessor, and includes rates paid by an officer as tenant;
(f) "rent allowance" means the allowance referred to in Order 109.
(g) "salary" includes pay, acting pay and personal allowance but no other allowance; and where expressed in dollars or sterling means annual salary;
(h) "senior superscale post" means a post in Part I of Appendix VI;
(i) "tenement" means a house or part of a house let, used or occupied as a separate dwelling, and in the application of this Part to Asiatics only, includes a cubicle.
