CHAN CHAU FAT, 25 years, of TAI 0, foki on board Fishing Junk

No.3870 H.0. states:-

At about 16.00 hours on the 12th October, 1959, I was

in charge of the above junk. CHAN LIN SAU, 32 years of TAI 0,

foki, and CHAN KWUN SHING, 23 years, of TAI 0, foki, were also

on board. We were fishing at a point between FAN LAU and À CHAU

when a Japanese trawler came from the direction of LAP SAP MET

and fired several shorts at us with rifles and shouted to us to

lower the sails, which we did. The trawler then came along-side

and six or seven sailors dressed in uniform came on board. They

told us to lower a sampan and leave the junk. We lowered our

Sampan and rowed away towards the shore. After we left the junk

I saw the sailors throwing various articles belonging to the

junk into the sea. When we were some distance away I saw the

trawler leave the junk and a few minutes afterwards, the junk

burst into flames. After the Japanese trawler left the vicinity

we went back to the junk and put out the fire and then towed

the junk back to TAI 0. All the fishing nets to the value of

$500 and all our personal property to the value of $100 were

destroyed. The junk was damaged beyond repair. No person was

injured by the Japanese.
