1939). On boarding complainant's junk CHAN LAU the steersman
handed me the part of a core of a nickel bullet which he said
he had found outside the door of the forward cabin on the star-
board side of the junk at 07.00 hours that morning.
examination of the junk I found a bullet hole on the starboard
side of the junk. I traced the course of the bullet and found
that after striking the starboard side of the junk the bullet
penetrated a wooden partition which divides the forward and
stern cabins.
The bullet then struck the baulk head and on
rebounding struck complainant's sister named PANG WO in the
right buttock.
I examined the two rifles which showed recent signs of
firing and smelt strongly of cordite. The cannon also showed
recent signs of having been fired.
At 10.00 hours on the 30th October, 1939, I handed the
core of the bullet given to me by CHAN LAU over to Sergeant Perkins Police Armourer (statement attached) for his report
on same.
At about 18.30 hours same evening (25th October, 1939)
I visited the scene of the incident aboard No.11 Motor Boat
together with the master and steersman who pointed out to me
the spot the incident is alleged to have taken place.
It was
roughly about one mile or so off LAU FAU SHAN. We then went
alongside No.4 Police Launch which was anchored off WAN HA (T) (Chinese territory) as the water was too shallow
for No.4 to visit the scene. The Officer in Charge, Police Sergeant A.38 Hudson took a 3 point bearing and judged the
position to be approximately 1 miles N.42 W. of SHA KONG MIU.
