Enclosure 1 in Shanghai despatch to Foreign Office No.93 of March 31st 1939.

To the Chancellor in Charge of Czechoslovakian Consulate-General, Shanghai, from H.B.M. Consul-General, Shanghai.

May 4th 1938.

Sir and dear Colleague,

I have the honour to transmit to you,

herewith, a statement of expenses incurred by His

Majesty's Government on behalf of Czechoslovakian

nationals who evacuated to Hongkong in August 1937.

Each person stated to the Authorities in

Hongkong that the Czechoslovakian Consul-General

would be responsible for any expenditure incurred

and as it has not been possible to collect the

amounts due from the individuals concerned, I shall

be glad if you will now kindly repay to me the amount

outstanding, viz Hongkong $1996.00, or its equivalent

in Shanghai currency.

I have, etc.,

(Signed) Herbert Phillips.

Consul-General.
