Appendix L- continued.

6. Further, prior to the revision of the salary scales of the

Junior Clerical Service in 1930 rent allowance was granted in

accordance with General Order 110A of 1924.

Salaries of $3,000 per annum and over

: -

Allowance of $25 per month.

Allowance of $20 per month.

Salaries of $2,000 to $2,999 per annum :-

Salaries of $850 to $1,999 per annum

Salaries of $450 to $849 per annum :

-

Allowance of $15 per month.

Allowance of 38 per month.

Subsequently a revision was made and the present General Order

relating to the grant of rent allowances was brought into force

as from 10th December, 1931 :

Salaries of $3,500 per annum and over :-

Allowance of $25 per month.

Salaries of $2,300 to $3,499 per annum :-

Allowance of $20 per month.

Salaries of $1,100 to $2,299 per annum :-

Allowance of $15 per month.

Salaries of $480 to $1,099 per annum :

Allowance of $8 per month.

It will be noted that the new scale of rent allowance compares

unfavourably with the old scale. For instance a Class VI clerk

on the maximum of the old scale (i.e. $850) would be eligible for

the $15 rent allowance under the old Order whereas under the new

Order he (on maximum $1,050) would only qualify for $8 allowance.
