Enclosure No.2.

water possibilities in the Tai Lam Chung Valley where

there is a site for a storage reservoir of 6,000 to 8,000

million gallons capacity, subject to satisfactory

foundations being obtained. A considerable amount of

useful information has already been collected. The

enclosed map shows, in rough form, the salient features

of the project. It is estimated that a supply of at

least 25,000,000 gallons per day may be depended upon

from the Tai Lam Chung Valley when this source has been

fully developed. Boring operations on a possible site

for a dam are now in progress and it is expected that by

the end of September sufficient information as to the

suitability of that site will be available.

6.

This proposed scheme is of a much greater

magnitude than the Shing Mun Valley scheme and I consider

it to be worthy of the best expert opinion available. For

this purpose it is requested that the Crown Agents for the

Colonies may be approached with a view to engaging

consultants to visit Hong Kong early in the autumn of

this year and, after discussion of the scheme with

officers of the Public Works Department, to furnish a

report on the suggested site.

7.

If this course of action is approved the

consultants engaged would probably find it useful, before

proceeding to Hong Kong, to discuss the matter with

Mr. R.M. Henderson, C.B.E., who is at present on leave

prior to retirement from the post of Director of Public

Works.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient. humble servant,

(. Cat_horthot

Governor.
