receipt of your Confidential despatch of the 2nd

of November, 1923, and to convey to you my approval

of your recomendation that the allowance paid by the

Government of Hong Kong for the upkeep of the Company

at Shanghai Registry/should be increased to $10000 a year.

I take this opportunity of forwarding for your information copies of a letter addressed to the British American Tobacco Company Limited on

the receipt of your telegram of the 24th of December, 1923, as to the fee payable by China Companies under

Hong Kong Ordinance 31 of 1915, and of the Company's
