now appears that this is not possible. It has been

suggested, however, that the Military Authorities might

be prepared to supply this weapon from obsolete stocks,

which are presumed to be on hand, free of charge. If

this is not possible it will probably be better for the

Defence Corps to be equipped with the new .38 revolver,

which is, if anything, a less expensive, handier and more

modern weapon. The number required in either event would

be 257. I should be grateful if the War Office might be

approached accordingly on this matter. The precise sum

required to be paid may have to be modified in accordance

with the decision on this point.
