necessary reserve equipment required to meet the
needs of the Volunteer Defence Corps on
mobilization.
The total cost of the stores
required to bring the corps up to its full approximately) compliment is £15,638.7.21d i.e.($250,000.
The arrangement
contemplated is that these
stores should be bought and stored by the
Military Authorities along with supplies required
for the Regular Army and issued to the
Volunteer Corps on mobilization.
If this principle is approved, the
Governor would like to meet the liability at
once, since cash resources are plentiful at
the moment; and he accordingly seeks approval
to ask the Legislative Council for a supplementary
vote to cover the cost of these stores, payment
to be made when the stores are complete.

their approval; approach the War Office regarding
supplies of revolvers as requested in para.4 of
the despatch, and inform Hong Kong that this has been done and that furtheunication will be
sent to them in due course.
