74. (i) That the University's resolution to suspend degree courses in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and to offer scholarships for the study of those subjects is approved but that the Univer- sity should be prepared to develop its Departments in these branches of Engineering as soon as recruit- ment of students warrants it, or if an authoritative request for the training of such men for work in China should be made (paras. 38 and 39).
(ii) That a new building to contain Civil and Electrical Engineering laboratories is needed and that certain modern equipment should be provided for these subjects (para. 41).
(iii) That Government be asked to assign to the University a suitable site in the New Terri- tories for a permanent survey camp (para. 42).
(iv) That the appointment of graduates of the University by the Government of Hong Kong to a cadre of Assistant Engineers would give such status to the degree as would help towards the appointment of Hong Kong Engineering graduates in China (para. 44).
75. (i) That the development of honours teaching in Physics and of post-graduate teaching in the Physics of Radio-Therapy is desirable, and that to provide for any considerable volume of post-graduate teaching and research in Radio- Therapy an additional lecturer would be required (para. 46).
(ii) That honours teaching in Chemistry should be developed and, for post-graduate work, a new branch of the Chemistry Department in Micro- analysis should be established, this requiring the appointment of a new lecturer in Micro-Chemistry (para. 17).
(iii) That Biology teaching should be extended to cover four years of University studies this requiring the appointment of an additional lecturer and demonstrator and an increased expenditure on laboratory maintenance (para. 48 (i) and (ii)).
(iv) That a Summer School of Marine Biology, organized by the University, should annually be held in the new Fisheries Institute in co-operation with the Academica Sinica and other Chinese In- stitutions (para. 48 (iii)).

(v) That a bureau for the supply of marine biological specimens should be established in the Fisheries Institute under the direction of the Bi- ology Department of the University (para. 48 (iv)).
Education.
76. (1) That honours teaching be offered in English Literature, this requiring the appointment of an additional Chinese lecturer in the English Department and that an experimental honours course in the comparative study of English and Chinese Literature be provided (para. 51 (i) and (ii)).
(ii) That for the co-ordination and develop- ment of studies in Logic, Ethics and the History of Philosophy, and for comparative study of Western and Chinese Thought, a Reader in Philosophy and a lecturer in Chinese Philosophy should be appointed with the co-operation of the Sino-British Cultural Relations Association (para. 52).
(iii) That for the development of history studies the staff should be increased by the appoint- ment of a lecturer and two tutors (para. 53).
(iv) That for the development of studies in Georgraphy and Geology a Reader and a lecturer should be appointed (para. 54).
(v) That courses in Commerce now offered should cease and in place thereof the University should develop a department for the teaching of Economics, Politics and Government, this requiring the appointment of a Chinese lecturer in Economics, in order, in combination with History and perhaps Philosophy, to provide a course similar to " Modern Greats at Oxford (para. 55).
(vi) That refresher courses for Chinese teachers in Hong Kong and South China should be provided yearly (para. 57 (iii) (b)).
(vii) That courses in Chinese should be pre- scribed for undergraduates following professional courses (para. 57 (iii) (c) and (d)).
77. (i) That the appointment of a psychologist to work in the Education Department of the Gov- erument and to assist in the training of teachers in the University is desirable (para. 56 (i)).
