consideration, but that new buildings now projected or
proposed in this Report should not be deferred until the
transfer is made.
The Governor, with the support of the Council,
has appointed a Committee to consider this recommendation
for a transfer. The Council debated the question whether,
pending the issue of this Committee's Report, the proposed
building schemes for the provision of new Science
laboratories (at an estimated cost of $300,000) and staff
flats should be proceeded with, and finally decided by
12 votes to 3 that these projects should be proceeded with
in view of the fact that the buildings are urgently needed
and that many years must elapse before the removal scheme,
consider a tims if accepted, could be carried out. The automa
involved are fully set out in para. 7 of the Governor's
despatch at 2, and the Governor expresses his full con-
currence in the views of the majority. It is interesting
to note that the probability is that the removal of at any
rate the teaching part of the University will not be
recommended.
The Committee finally recommend in their Report
additional expenditure of $22,000 annually on University
libraries for a period of at least 7 years.
