the colony would be necessary, as well as local
support, if the University is to be developed on
the proposed lines".
I suggest that the declaration of policy
which those present at the meeting had in mind
covered such recognition, and that it ought to be
made clear from the outset that the general approval
by H.M.G. implies at least readiness to consider
at the proper time, and with reference to other
claims, an application for financial assistance.
I assume that the draft bote of the
meeting will be sent for amendment where necessary
to Dr. Sloss and Mr. Howe. It may be thought well
to await their return of the draft before actual
despatch of the letters, though if there are
reasons of urgency I should not regard this as
essential.
