From the Governor of Portuguese Timor to Consul-General

Fitzmaurice, of February 15th, 1939.

My Lord,

In my despatch No.177 of the 12nd June, 1938,

I had the honour to send Your Lordship information of

a tour to Darwin and Portuguese Timor undertaken by

Xr. NONOMURA, the Japanese Consul at Menado.

8.

Having received confidential information that

the main business of Mr. Konomurs in Timor was to

strengthen the Hanyo Kohatsu Xeishe's control over the Sociedade Agricola, I addressed a personal and

confidential letter in August last to the Governor of Portuguese Timor enquiring if he could give me any information on the subject. I have only now received

a reply, and though its contents are somewhat belated, have the honour to enclose a copy for Your Lordship's

information.

3. This letter is principally interesting as illustrating the attitude adopted b the Japanese Consul at Mensdo towards the Government of Fortuguese

His Majesty's Frincipal Secretary

of State for Foreign Affairs,

Foreign Office,

LONDON, S.1.1.
