advocating a religious faith, but one which

is not considered by the State to come under

the category of a religious body.

Religious bodies are divided into

five categories, viz:- Shinto sects, Buddhists

seats, denominations of Christianity or other

religions, (Buddhist) temples and churches.

(Buddhist) temples are required to be juridical

persons; other religious bodies may be juridical

persons, if it is so desired (Articles 1 and 2).

Hitherto such regulations as have existed

(the main enactment on the subject being a Decree

of the former Dajokan of 1884) have applied

only to Chinto and Buddhist seats, and not to

Christian churches and other religious organi-

sations, end Buddhist temples only have been

accorded the privilege of forming a juridical
