British Consulate,

Tengyueh,

27th March, 1939.

Sir,

With reference to my despatch No. 17 of 18th March,

I have the honour to transmit herewith particulars of

the munitions received by train in Lashio and thence

transported by motor lorry to China between 18th February

and 8th March 1939. These figures have been supplied to

me at my request by the Superintendent, Northern Shan

States, Lashio, who has very kindly arranged to transmit

them to me monthly in future. The ammunition cases many

of which I saw myself when in Lashio revealed French origin.

I am requesting my informant to be so good as to indicate

countries of origin in the case of future consignments.

2. As stated in my despatch under reference the regular

transportation of munitions by this means did not commence

until 18th February, before which the only consignment to

my knowledge was carried in 23 or 24 motor vehicles which

passed through Lungling on 7th December last and to which

I referred in my Monthly Summary for December.

His Excellency

Sir Archibald Clark Kerr, K.C.M.G.,

etc., etc., etc.,

British Embassy,

Shanghai.

I have, etc.,

(Signed) G.E. Stockley,

Consul.
