about 10,000 gallons of petrol for the aircraft factory

at Loiwing via Bhamo.

They have tried without success

to obtain some of the munitions traffic from the South

West Transportation Company, the view of the Government

of Burma being that as there is a railway to, and a road

from, Lashio, on which much money has been spent, there is

no point in allowing the Bhamo-Muse section of road to be

used especially since it is in a bad condition and only

fit for 3 ton loads. They add that this particular section

will be out of commission during the rains.

The Company further give it as their opinion

that there is little prospect of munitions traffic

proceeding to Bhamo and thence by mule via Tengyueh as

although the cost per ton from Bhamo to Hsiakuan is Rupees

120 which is no more than the cost by motor transport from

Lashio, the latter is the far quicker method. This does

not take account of the probable interruption of the

main Burma-Yunnan motor road during the rainy season.

I am however without later information regarding

arrangements for the transport of munition by mule.

I have etc.,

Consul.
