DRAFT ON 53533/39.
S. CAINE, ESQ.
Colonial Office,
Downing Street,
4/5
2. June, 1939.
Dear Caine,
In the Governor's despatch No. 195 of the
15th March, the Secretary of State's approval is asked
for supplementary expenditure of $40,851,06 under
Head 31, Public Works Extraordinary, of the Estimates
for 1939 to cover the cost of the final payment to the
Admiralty in respect of the transfer to the Colonial
Government of the former Naval Arsenal Yard.
We have not been able to trace any despatch
from the Colony reporting a settlement of the aerial
ropeway impasse. To enable us to deal with the
despatch of the 15th March, would you kindly let us
have some further information showing how the matter
has been cleared up?
Yours sincerely,
(Signed) G. E. J. GENT.
