obviously a possibility that as the trend towards

mechanization continues it will be found desirable to

increase the number of armoured cars used by the Volunteer

Corps, with resultant further expense to the Colonial

Government.

While realizing the complexity of the situation

and also the magnitude of the expenditure by His Majesty's

Government on defence, not only generally but in the

Colony itself, I should be grateful if it were possible

to lay down any general principle as to the extent to

which this Government should be regarded as liable for

equipment of this nature required owing to the transfer of

duties to the Volunteer Forces.
