occupy all our big cities. Industrial co-operatives can
utilize all idle workers, keep our soldiers clothed and fed,
and avoid famine and other economic troubles. Industrial co-
operatives can support prolonged resistance, and make Japan's
occupation of the cities entirely profitless.
For this movement we need the help of progressive youth
everywhere. We ask you to request American relief agencies
to stop sending all their money to the occupied areas of China.
We ask that this money be sent to the industrial co-operatives,
so that the workers can use it to buy shares in the co-operative
factories. We ask that you urge your Government to sell our
industrial co-operatives machinery and materials on credit, so
that we can help our people to carry out measures of permanent
productive relief. We ask your bankers to lend money to the
co-operatives, and your youth volunteers to send us technicians.
Our Government will welcome all the support you can bring to
this progressive movement.
Is all this too much to demand of you? I do not think so.
It is impossible to ask too much of conscious crusading youths
like you
and nothing is too difficult for you to accomplish,
if you are united in your purpose. Your aid now will earn the lasting gratitude of our millions of young people.
Your reward
will be that not so long hence we shall be able to greet you, a
free and democratic China, and link hands with you in the
struggle for liberation throughout the world.
If our young dead on the battlefields could speak they
would surely join me here to salute you in the name of the
spirit of youth which is human freedom for which they
died. I thank you.
