In a despatch dealing with an existing
vacancy for an Assistant Mistress in Hong Kong the
Governor has mentioned that the remuneration of
Mistresses in the Education Department is at present
under review, and that whatever the outcome it need
not be anticipated that the remuneration shown in
the paper of particulars for the present vacancy is
in the least likely to be reduced. This I think
refers to the "Anomalies Committee", so called, which
has been gathering up the loose ends left over by the
recent revision of salaries amongst the principal
classes of Government staff. I rather think it would
be as well to wait and see what recommendations
are forthcoming in respect of women teachers, and
then consider whether to put a question to the
Governor or the Colonial Secretary on the lines
suggested by Mr. Mayhew.
