No. 492.
て
AIR MAIL.
GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONG KONG.
20th June, 1938.
17
Sir,
I have the honour to address you on the
subject of the grant of an alternative site for a golf
course and club house to the Kowloon Golf Club which is
required to vacate its present site by the Military
Authorities.
2.
This Club, which serves a useful purpose
in providing golfing facilities for a section of the
community not otherwise catered for, at one time maintained
a course in the area known as King's Park, but, on being
required to vacate that site in 1924, was permitted by
the Military Authorities to use an area on the Rifle Ranges
at Kowloon City situated on War Department Lot No. 18.
3.
This site was not wholly satisfactory from
the point of view of the Club since the Military Authorities
had the power to evict the Club on giving twenty-eight days'
notice; and further, the use of the Ranges for firing
practice, which took precedence over the use of the golf
course, interfered with the activities of the Club. The
Club, however, spent money on forming and maintaining the
course and on erecting a pavilion. The course and buildings
must now be handed over to the Military Authorities who
have given notice of terminating the encroachment permit
